Igloo Featured in the Edmonton Journal

Earlier this week we were pleased to welcome the Edmonton Journal into the heart of our operation for a tour. While the folks from the Journal spent time meeting some of our team and touring the factory, they were particularly interested in our “Balanced Energy” homes. Our President Tarry spent time answering questions on pricing, build time, our target market and most importantly what exactly is a “Balanced Energy” home?

A “Balanced Energy” home, as Tarry points out - begins long before a single nail is hammered into a new home. These homes, with Energuide ratings of 95, really start to take shape when we can identify and build partnerships with technology providers all over North America. Igloo has fostered close relationships with these companies so we can provide things like mineral wool insulation, low iron glazed windows and energy recovery systems to name a few examples. As energy prices continue to rise we expect energy efficient homes to become increasingly popular.

It is not simply about the technology though - installing an energy efficient heating and cooling system, or a few solar panels is a waste of time if the home is not built ‘tight’. This means, literally, no drafts, no energy leaks and no cold spots. In order for any of the technology to function efficiently we are required to use the most advanced building envelope system in the industry. This is an extremely difficult challenge for traditional home builders. For Igloo it isn’t easy but we have a tremendous advantage because our homes are built inside, on an assembly line with 18 different specialized stations.

For a deeper look into Igloo and our “Balanced Energy” homes please head on over to the Edmonton Journal Article .
